I study when spatial transport measurements can distinguish microscopic kinetic dynamics from an effective fluid description. This is a general inference problem: which microscopic information remains recoverable from finite-resolution maps of voltage, current, and dissipation? My work uses semiclassical Boltzmann kinetics, electron hydrodynamics, magnetotransport, and quantum Hall response in two-dimensional electron systems.

Beyond hydrodynamic closure

Fluid theories retain only a few slow moments of the electron distribution. I identify finite-wave-number response that stress-level hydrodynamics omits, then derive its higher-gradient structure, fourth-order closure obstruction, and chiral nonlocal completion.

Symmetry-selected kinetic probes

The symmetry of a drive can make ordinary local heating vanish at one point in a device. In a sixfold geometry, Ohmic and rank-two viscous dissipation vanish there, leaving a higher angular harmonic as the leading signal in a local dissipation map.

Finite-resolution transport inference

Spatial probes have finite resolution, so not every transport coefficient is identifiable from a measured image. I test identifiability of thermoelectric Hall contrast and Hall-viscous response once resolution, boundaries, and higher-gradient nuisance terms enter.
